ABOUT
THE VILLA
Villa Sìliqua develops on a panoramic hill from which it dominates the urban path that goes from Ragusa Ibla to Ragusa Superiore. It is surrounded by the Irminio river valley, by the characteristic dry stone walls and by a multitude of fruit trees.
From the flower garden, which welcomes the visitor and accompanies him to the main entrance of the villa, it is possible to admire the baroque churches and historic buildings listed in the UNESCO heritage.
The wooden window of the entrance gives access to a large hall with three consecutive arches, obtained in the ancient nave of the church, which preserves the seventeenth-century niches and the votive altars.
The rooms of the old rectory, to the right of the living room, have been converted for residential use and host three air-conditioned double bedrooms and two bathrooms with hydromassage around a large hallway.
On the left, instead, you enter a bright winter garden created in a glassed-in veranda and a kitchen overlooking a second garden with a stone swimming pool-pond, where you can indulge in well-deserved relaxation while admiring the valley and the ancient city of Ibla.
The Villa stands on the remains of an ancient rural monastery of origins prior to the earthquake which, in 1693, destroyed the whole of South-Eastern Sicily.
The monks enriched the bell structure and the main body of the Villa, which they lived until the progressive abandonment which ended in the nineteenth century.
Subsequently, the building was used as a typical Ragusan farm, characterized by the breeding of cattle and the production of carobs, almonds and olives.
In the 1980s, the current owners gave new life to the structure which, with the restoration in 2020, saw the renewal of the systems and furnishings and the construction of the swimming pool.
SEE & DO
SPEND AN UNFORGETTABLE HOLIDAY
Villa Sìliqua is located a few hundred meters from the entrance of Ragusa Ibla and just 3 minutes by car from the entrance of Ragusa Superiore. The two urban centers are renowned for the numerous sites dating back to the Baroque period and listed as a UNESCO heritage site.
Ragusa also enjoys recent fame thanks to its adoption as the main location for the filming of the successful television series "Il commissario Montalbano", in whose footsteps you can rediscover the places where its events are set (one among many, the same Villa Sìliqua in the episode "Il covo di vipere").
The restoration of the historical and religious monuments and the renewal of the urban system carried out in the last 20 years have made the province of Ragusa one of the most enchanting places to spend an unforgettable holiday in Sicily.
Ragusa also offers the opportunity to satisfy the palate in its numerous restaurants, where you can enjoy dishes ranging from traditional gastronomy (such as the inevitable “scacce” and arancine) to the more innovative one.
The city is also famous for its popular festivals, including those for the Patron Saints San Giovanni (of Ragusa) and San Giorgio (of Ibla), its cultural events, including "A Tutto Volume", the hiking sites of the Iblei Park and the barycentric position with respect to the most suggestive places in the south-eastern area of the island.
From Vìlla Siliqua it is easy to reach the sandy beaches on the Mediterranean to enjoy a swim in Marina di Ragusa (25 km away) or to contemplate the sunset of Punta Secca, where the famous house of Inspector Montalbano is located.
Located in the heart of the Val di Noto, from Villa Siliqua it is also easy to reach cities that are symbols of the Baroque heritage, such as Modica, Scicli, Noto and Syracuse, or coastal towns of international prestige such as Marzamemi and Ortigia.
